Insurance Village 26th September to 1st October 2011

The Association of Kenya Insurers held the exhibition at the ASK showground at the Nairobi International Trade Fair dubbed Insurance Village. This was the first time that the Association brought together insurance companies and stakeholders to exhibit their services at the Nairobi International Trade Fair.

The initiative was noted by the Minister for Trade Hon. Makwere who visited the Insurance Village and commended the insurance industry for the collaboration. It is worth noting that the insurance industry was the only sector that brought together its stakeholders to exhibit together at the Trade Fair.

The Insurance Village was held from Monday 26th September to Sunday 1st October during the entire duration of the Nairobi International Trade Fair. Twenty-Four (24) companies exhibited at the Insurance Village i.e. 22 Insurance Companies and 2 Medical Insurance Providers (MIPs). Nairobi and Getrudes hospitals also partnered with AKI to offer free basic medical services at the Trade Fair.

A total of approximately 13,843 members of the public visited the Insurance Village with the highest turnout being recorded on Thursday (3,423 people) and Friday (4,760) people). His Excellency the President Hon. Mwai Kibaki officially opened the trade fair on Friday 30th September and this day was also designated for school parties. This probably accounts for the high turnout on Friday.

Mr. S. Makove, the Chief Executive of the Insurance Regulatory Authority officially opened the Insurance Village on Monday 26th September and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was also attended by Chief Executives of insurance companies and other distinguished guests.

AKI's theme was "Insurance for All" with a bias towards micro-insurance. The theme for the Trade Fair was "Driving Agri-business in Attaining Food Sufficiency and Vision 2030". A number of Insurance Companies were able to bias their exhibits towards the two themes.

The ASK officials had a competition for the best stand under various categories such as Best Insurance Company Stand, however this year AKI did not participate. Getrudes Hospital participated under the Health Sector category.
