The 22nd Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday the 26th of March, 2009 at the College of Insurance. In welcoming members, the AKI Chairman, Mr Nelson Kuria indicated that the insurance industry was at cross roads, faced with many challenges. He noted that the industry was not immune to the effects of the current Global financial crisis and he called on members to brace themselves for hard times ahead. He noted that consumers were more dependants on the industry to bail them out of hard times and indeed secure their financial future. Members were reminded to embrace the basics in underwriting as well as the principles of sound Corporate Governance in order to ensure their survival. Below is the full text of Mr Kuria’s speech.
