The Secretariat and AKI Medical Committee organized a symposium on 13th November 2008, with the aim of bringing together private health providers to chart the way forward on various industry issues with an aim of making Medical insurance affordable.
The same was attended by major hospitals both in Nairobi and upcountry, Doctors in various specialties, Outpatient Clinics, pharmacies and Medical Insurance Providers (HMOs), and medical insurance underwriters.

he symposium covered three main topics:-
- Customer Service and Patient Charters
- Payment Modalities and Coding & Standardization
- Quality Care and Cost Containment
At the end of the symposium, three working groups were formed to discuss and make recommendations on the way forward on each of the topics. All Participants agreed that with a way forward discussed and agreed by all Stakeholders, the cost of medical insurance will become affordable, and this will be a benefit for the whole industry.
